KZN Press Release20-May-2003At a special Council meeting of the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union held onFriday 15 May 2003, the Members of Council expressed overwhelming supportfor the President of the Union, Dr Logan Naidoo. The vote of confidence (32for, 0 against and 4 abstentions) vindicates the President and expressessupport for the success of the Union under his leadership. This support ofthe President also sends out a clear message to the recent detractors whohave used the media as a platform of debate.At the same meeting the Council after much debate agreed to the request bythe CEO, Mr Cassim Docrat, to be given an early retirement package. Councilwas informed that Mr Docrat and the Treasurer of the Union, Mr SathieGovender had completed negotiations on a favourable package thataccommodated the CEO’s needs. Mr Docrat’s package included an exit from hisCEO position on the 31 July 2003 and the assumption of a Consultant positionwith effect from 1 August 2003 until December 2004. This position will inthe main deal with Marketing and Corporate Liaison. Council was informedthat Mr Docrat would like to change the exit date of his present CEOposition from July to December 2003. Council agreed that this could benegotiated with Mr Docrat within the parameters of the package already inplace.At a Special General meeting held prior to the above Council Meeting, theproposed changes to the constitution came up for discussion. Notwithstandingthe fact that the Country Districts (10 Sub Unions), the two schools bodies,Women’s Cricket Association, Umpires Association and one Associate Sub Unionhaving fully discussed the changes and were ready for the discussion, theMeeting agreed to a proposal by the President Dr Logan Naidoo thatnotwithstanding the fact that Sub Unions were given over a month to discussthese changes, Durban (DDCU) and Maritzburg (MCA) be given more time todiscuss the changes due to the apparent confusion amongst some of theirMembers on the need for the proposed changes. As a result of thispostponement, a special general meeting will now be held on 6 June 2003 todiscuss the proposed constitutional changes and the Annual General Meetingof the Union will now be moved to the 27 June 2003.At the meeting an emotional President once again appealed to all Councillorsto build on the positives of the Union and not let their personal problemsimpact on the integrity of the Union.
