Rangers have been dealt a big injury setback over Ibrox striker Alfredo Morelos, and it’s sure to have left the Ibrox faithful running for the hills.

What’s the latest?

The Gers attacker was due to take part in his country’s matches this week but has now been sent back to Glasgow to deal with his knock.

Rangers’ star man missed Colombia’s 3-0 win over Bolivia and the upcoming clash with Venezuela.

It was reported earlier in the week that he was absent for his side’s win because of a knock but it was unclear how serious the blow was. It has now been revealed that it is big enough to keep him out of their second game and this will cause huge concern at Rangers.

The Daily Record quotes the Colombian Football Federation as stating: “The technical and medical staff of the Colombia Men’s Senior National Team reports that, after performing medical tests on player Alfredo Morelos, a muscle injury in the left thigh was confirmed, which prevented him from participating in the previous match against Bolivia and likewise does not allow him to participate in the next match of the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.”

Panic at Ibrox

This update will surely leave the Ibrox faithful and van Bronckhorst panicking as it suggests that Morelos is a major doubt to face Celtic next Sunday.

It was less of a concern when he missed the Bolivia match as there was still a chance of him making their second game, which would have left him in a good position heading into the derby.

This is why supporters may not have been at panic stations initially, but they will be now with this latest development on his situation.

Van Bronckhorst will be worrying about his availability and wondering whether or not he will be able to feature against the Hoops.

Even if he passes fit for the clash, he will be going into the Old Firm meeting without being 100% as he is carrying a thigh injury and it seems unlikely that he will fully recover for Sunday when Colombia do not believe that he will be ready to play at all on Wednesday.

Therefore, they will be panicking ahead of the huge top-of-the-table clash. Morelos is a massive player for the Gers, with 11 goals and seven assists in the Premiership this season, and losing him would be a huge blow as the boss would be unable to call upon his attacking quality from the start – assuming he is not fit enough to be named in the XI.
