Having arrived from Hoffenheim last summer for a reported £40m, it’s safe to say Joelinton hasn’t exactly enjoyed the greatest of starts to his Newcastle career.

The Brazilian had managed a measly three goals and three assists in 31 games prior to the clash against Burnley on Saturday afternoon, and failed to add anything to that total after it.

And his overall display was particularly disappointing too. As per Sofascore, his 6.4 match rating was the worst of any Newcastle player on the pitch, losing 11 duels, making just 18 passes, and having no shots on goal whatsoever.

After seeing his performance, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the centre-forward.

A couple of fans were particularly brutal in their criticism of the summer signing, with one supporter suggesting he is their “worst ever signing”, and another taking it further by saying that he is “the worst player in the club’s history”.

One fan of the Tyneside club meanwhile, raised their concerns over Joelinton being “untouchable” no matter how badly he plays.

Bruce hardly did the 23-year-old any great favours by utilising him from the left-hand side, and it showed massively in his poor performance.

He struggled to get involved in the game, and looked well off the pace. It was no surprise to see the Newcastle boss decide to take him off for Allan Saint-Maximin with less than 15 minutes remaining despite the scores being locked level.
